Our mission
Cegin y Bobl runs transformational food education programmes developed and delivered by some of Wales’ best cooks, growers and food experts. Our work builds on the successful Cook24 programme run by Coleg Sir Gar in 2023-4.
We believe that food and cooking skills can address so many of the difficult issues we face today: diet-related diseases, isolation and anxiety, and the crisis in farming, biodiversity and the cost of living. By shifting mindsets, from home kitchens to schools to growers and policy makers, we’re reshaping food systems to transform the future of food for everyone.
Food Discovery
This hands-on 6-week course gets kids stuck into real cooking, giving them freedom, responsibility, and respect in the kitchen, classroom, and on the farm.
The impact speaks for itself: better attendance, improved focus, kids proud of what they’ve made and open to trying new foods. Families are cooking from scratch more, and teachers are seeing the difference every day.
Food Leadership
Our food leadership programme gives teachers and community leaders the tools to make food part of everyday learning. Over four days of hands-on and practical sessions, they build skills, confidence, and a plan to bring food education into their schools or communities.
Participants leave fired up, with the knowledge, techniques, and belief that food can spark real change in classrooms and beyond.
Home Cookery
We run 6-week home cookery courses for everyone—from food bank users to parents and community groups. The aim? Build confidence to cook healthy, tasty food from scratch, without breaking the bank.
Courses cover cooking with basics, meal planning, budgeting, and reducing food waste. People leave with new skills, fresh motivation, and a whole new outlook on food.
Outdoor Cookery
Led by Chef Polly Baldwin, founder of The Jolly Allotment, our Outdoor Cookery Workshop offers a unique, fire-fuelled cooking experience.
This one-day session, open to schools and community groups, gets people cooking outdoors, reconnecting with nature, and discovering the power of food and flame.
Cook-Along
Tailored to each community we work with, our weekly cook-along sessions bring people together to make and share a meal.
Led by our chefs and powered by volunteers, these sessions build connection, offer a warm welcome, and provide a nourishing meal to those who might otherwise go without.
Family Cook Club
The Family Cook Club is designed to bring families together in a relaxed, stress-free cooking environment where everyone can learn to make affordable and nutritious meals. Sessions are tailored so that all family members — regardless of age or skill level — can participate and enjoy the experience. The focus is on reducing the pressure of cooking at home, building kitchen confidence, and making mealtimes enjoyable, collaborative, and fun.
Bespoke Delivery
We partner with health boards, community groups, and businesses to deliver tailored food workshops. From supporting young parents with baby nutrition to exploring the links between food, mental health, and wellbeing, we’ve run courses that make a real impact.
Every workshop is shaped to fit your needs. Get in touch for more info.
Further and Higher Education
One of our key aims as we establish Cegin y Bobl is to look to the future – through investing in education. Alongside teaching community leaders and school kids we need to raise the next generation of food leaders, policymakers and passionate chefs and farmers in Wales – so we are working with fantastic partners to deliver exciting, real education in food and farming.
